Singer/Songwriter Jackson Browne Files Suit Against Republican Presidential Candidate Senator John McCain and the Republican Party for Copyright Infringement and False Endorsement

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 14 -- Renowned songwriter and liberal
political activist Jackson Browne has filed a lawsuit today against Senator
John McCain and the Republican National Committee in the United States
District Court in Los Angeles, California. The lawsuit stems from a recent
television commercial for Senator McCain's presidential bid that
incorporates the song Running On Empty, a song written by and famously
associated with Mr. Browne, it was announced today by Jackson Browne's
attorney, Lawrence Y. Iser.

The suit alleges that Senator McCain and the Republican Party failed to
obtain a licence for the use of Mr. Browne's song in the television
commercial. In the commercial-grade, Senator McCain and the Republicans mock
Democratic candidate for President Barack Obama for suggesting that the
land conserve gas pedal through proper tire inflation.

In addition to a claim for copyright infringement, the cause alleges
that by victimization a song famously associated with Mr. Browne, Senator McCain
and the Republican Party violated the United States Lanham Act by falsely
suggesting that Mr. Browne is associated with and endorses Senator McCain's
candidacy. The suit besides alleges that the manipulation of Mr. Browne's voice in the
commercial violates Mr. Browne's right of publicity under California law.
The suit seeks a lasting injunction prohibiting the use of Running On
Empty and any other Jackson Browne composition, as well as damages.

"We are confident that Jackson Browne will prevail in this lawsuit. Not
only have got Senator McCain and his agents obviously infringed Mr. Browne's
copyright in Running On Empty, but the Federal Courts receive long held that
the unauthorized usance of a famous singer's voice in a commercial constitutes
a false indorsement and a violation of the singer's right of publicity,"
Lawrence Iser of the Santa Monica, California law firm Kinsella Weitzman
Iser Kump & Aldisert said. "In light of Jackson Browne's lifelong
dedication to Democratic ideals and political candidates, the

Keira Knightley - Keira Knightley In Line For My Fair Lady Remake

Keira Knightley is in talks to star in a remake of My Fair Lady, reports claim.

Columbia Pictures are planning to rework the musical, famously adapted for the screen in 1964, with Audrey Hepburn starring as Cockney flower girl Eliza Doolittle.

And while the Oscar-winning 60s version is already beloved by fans of musical theatre and of George Bernard Shaw's Pygmalion, on which it is based, producers Duncan Kenworthy and Sir Cameron Mackintosh are planning a new big screen version with Knightley in discussions to star.

According to Variety, Notting Hill producer Kenworthy plans to shoot the film in its original London locations of Covent Garden, Drury Lane, Tottenham Court Road and Wimpole Street as well as retaining its 1912 setting.

Sir Cameron - recently seen on British TV screens as part of talent contest I'd Do Anything, with contestants vying to play Nancy in his West End revival of Oliver! - has worked on two stage revivals of My Fair Lady, in both 1979 and 2001.

And with the 21st century show now touring the US, he said the story of Doolittle's transformation from loudmouth to lady "couldn't be more timely in a contemporary world obsessed with overnight celebrity."

And Kenworthy, who has worked with Knightley on Love Actually, added: "With 40 years of hindsight, we're confident that by setting these wonderful characters and brilliant songs in a more realistic context, and by exploring Eliza's emotional journey more fully, we will honour both Shaw and [score writer Alan] Lerner at the same time as engaging and entertaining contemporary audiences the world over."

Columbia refused to comment on potential casting and a start date for the film.
